The startup world can’t seem to get enough of Paul Graham and his incredibly successful startup incubator, Y-Combinator. The model for helping get startups off the ground has been studied and duplicated in various verticals. Competitors have been scrambling to keep up with the standards that Y-Combinator has established in the industry.
Today, we bring you a success story of a Y-Combinator graduate that is bringing to market a technology sure to be a huge part of changing medical records practices. Although it might sound less important, than, let’s say, green energy, medical records technology is a huge priority to the U.S. government which offers lucrative incentives to physicians who meet certain guidelines.
Drchrono started three years ago with the goal of bringing good principles and design to electronic medical records. After a short run with the Rose Tech Ventures incubator on the east coast, founders Daniel Kivatinos and Michael Nusimow, moved the company to Silican Valley. The alumni of Y-Combinator played a helpful role in helping Drchrono raise $675,000 last May to continue working on the free platform they are providing physicians.
According to drchrono.com, their mission is to “give physicians, medical groups and clinics a path to the future. Drchrono is a dynamic medical company that provides the core EHR platform, scheduling, patient reminders and billing system that every practice needs. Giving ePrescribing, patient check-in pads and more. Our services enable healthcare providers to have a choice of the applications, technology and back office resources they need without the expense and complexity of hospital level systems. Our goal is to give health professionals an all in one solution.”
Drchrono announced today this is unveiling new features that will complete the functionality required for physicians using it to meet the guidelines for federal incentives. The app now includes free ePrescribing, FreeDraw and faxing.
Free ePrescribing is exactly what is sounds like. From their iPad, physicians can send a patience’ pharmacy a prescription to be filled. The most requested feature by doctors is FreeDraw. Using the feature, physicians can upload an image like an x-ray, draw diagrams or notes on it to add to the medical record or to send to another physician or hospital.
Knowing that the federal incentives are a critical point for doctors, Drchrono provides a summary dashboard to each provider to measure their progress towards qualification. The Meaningful Use Act offers qualifying physicians up to $100,000 in Medicare and Medicaid incentives. Drchrono helps them get there and does it for free.
